Deep sea frogfish

Deep sea anglerfish males reach sexual maturity soon after metamorphosis (change from larval stage to adult) but females take much longer. For the first time ever a deep-sea frogfish of the family Caulophrynidae could be observed live. Little is known about these fish, which are found only in the deep sea and are also called fanfin monkfish.


Frogfish live generally on the ocean floor around coral or rock reefs, at most to 1m (3ft) deep. A few exceptions to these general limits are known.
