Single mom by choice

Becoming a single mother by choice is not an easy road. It involves unique challenges. Yet, I have not once looked back on my choice with ambivalence or regret.

Just a few years ago I faced a difficult life circumstance where my thirteen year relationship had broken down, I was diagnosed with infertility and my dreams of having a family were rapidly fading away. Two years ago, however, I met my now-fiancee, a fellow single mother (though not by choice ) whom I met through my mom blog (yes, really).

I use the term “ single mother by choice ” because it disrupts dominant narratives about motherhood and about who can be mothers on their own terms.
